The first night ride provided an evening encounter with a large python which was exiting the mangroves to spend the night in a tree next to the bike path. Our first two riders rode over the snake's tail before realising their error.... the rest of us came to a very sudden stop and waited until Mr or Ms Snake had lithered across the bike path and into the tree. It stretched from one side of the bike path to the other, with a fair bit hanging over each side ... in other works, quite a large snake!! Happy to report it appeared quite unharmed. Fish and chips in Lota tasted better for the experience.
The second ride provided a beautiful sunset cycle along the Bulimba Creek bikeway until we reached the turn off for the Carindale Hotel. They didn't appear to mind a bunch of mildly sweaty cyclists appearing on their doorstep for dinner. After an enjoyable meal we retraced our route, dodging toads and the occasional walker as we wove our way back to our starting point. The AYUP light came in very handy, as it's extremely dark on this bike path as it ambles through Minnippi Parklands.
