Your touring adventure commences as you board the train in Paris and head for Orleans.  It concludes when you step back on the train in Angers, after following the cycling route Loire à velo’ through the beautiful Loire region.

  • Tour price is based on twin share accommodation.
  • Single rider supplement $600.00  -  if you would like us to match you with a fellow rider for twin share accommodation, please advise at time of booking and we will put you in touch with other riders willing to share.

CANCELLATION & REFUNDS POLICY:
Notice of cancellation must be in writing directly to Cycle Away, with an email as an acceptable form of communication.  The following cancellation conditions apply: 

Cancellation 60 days plus prior to trip departure - loss of deposit
Cancellation 59 - 30 days prior to trip departure - 50% loss of the tour cost
Cancellation 29 - 15 days prior to trip departure - 75% loss of the tour cost
Cancellation within 14 days of the trip departure - 100% loss of the tour cost
No refund is available after departure of a tour has commenced.

Capped at: We need a minimum of 6  riders and will take up to 10 riders on this trip. The ride will only proceed if minimum numbers obtained.

    Day 1    Arrive Orleans

     

      Train from Paris to Orleans.  Orleans is the 'City of Art and History'.  It was liberated from an English siege in 1429 by Joan of Arc.  Collect your bikes at the hotel and explore the city.

        Day 2   Orleans - Beaugency - 26km
        Cycle along the wild river banks, drinking in the calm and serenity of the local scenery, before arriving in the beautiful city of Beaugency.

            Day 3   Beaugency - Blois - 46km
            Leave Beaugency by the river banks, passing the prestigious chateau of Chambord: the widest chateau of the Loire Valley and a masterpiece of the Renaissance period.  Stop and marvel at the wonderful workmanship.  Continue cycling towards Blois and gaze upon brilliant examples of French architecture from the middle ages and beyond.  The town of Blois has a rich historical heritage.

              Day 4   Blois - Amboise - 42km
              Follow the small countryside routes until arriving at the chateau of Chaumont overlooking the Loire River, before heading to Amboise and its royal chateau from 15th - 16th century.  A few streets further on, you will find the last home of Leonardo Da Vinci:  Manorhouse of 'Clos Luce'.

                    Day 5   Amboise - Tours - 27km 
                    Ride through the vineyards of Montlouis to discover the numerous cellars offering sweet white or sparkling wines. Then, enjoy the lovely chateau birthplace of Gabrielle d'Estrees, the favourite of King Henri IV.  Continue to the heart of the city of Tours to discover the old quarters sheltering the famous 'Place Plumereau' and its half-timbered houses.

                    Day 6   Tours - Azay-le-Rideau - 41km

                    Ride to Savonnieres where you can visit the Petrifying Grottoes, a natural wonder.  Then proceed to Villandry with its famous gardens, matchless in Europe and composed of 3 superimposed terraces.  Cycle on to Sache, the house of the famous novelist Honor de Balzac.  Arriving in Azay le Rideau you can admire its Renaissance chateau, a jewel set over the Indre river.

                    Day 7   Azay-le-Rideau - Chinon - 35km

                    Depart Azay-le-Rideau and head towards Lanegais and its 15th century chateau.  It is a fine example of a medieval fortified castle.  You can admire wonderful tapestries and beautiful furniture in the castle.  The route then passes the 'Sleeping Beauty' chateau in Usse.  This chateau inspired Charles Perrault to write the famous fairy tale.

                      Day 8   Chinon - Saumur - 36km
                      Prior to leaving the medieval city of Chinon you may wish to visit several cellars to sample the famous red wine appreciated by Rabelais. Then, continue towards the Abbey of Fontevraud, the largest monastic city remaining in Europe.  The abbey is the Necropolis of the Plantagenet sovereigns  -  Henry II, Eleanor of Aquitaine and King Richard the Lionhearted were all buried here at the end of the 12th century.  Cycle on to the lovely town of Saumur.  We do have an optional extra 12km cycle if you would like to see more lovely country side.

                      Day 9   Saumur - Angers - 57km

                       

                      Follow the Loire River and then cycle through the vineyards of Anjou.  You will reach the peaceful city of Angers and its chateau which shelters the famous Apocalypse Tapestry.

                      Day 10   Depart Angers to Paris - Train 

                      Your cycling holiday ends today.  We will take the train back to Paris and say goodbye until the next trip.
