Day 2 - Ross to Hokitika - (33km)
Shuttle from Hokitika to Ross and you will then start cycling the West Coast Wilderness Trail. The small town of Ross and the larger town of Hokitika were both gold mining towns. The charm of gold mining, historic railway bridges and exceptional wetlands make this a lovely day on the bike. We stop at the West Coast Treetop Walk to experience native forest and Mahinapau Creek and wetlands from up among the treetops. A special treat today is the West Coast Scenic Waterway tour before we head into town.Accommodation Hokitika
Day 3 - Hokitika to Cowboy Paradise - (36km)
Plenty of highlights today. We will be cycling beside Lake Kaniere, through a spectacular mountain ringed valley, alongside an historic waterway and will cruise through native forest. We have a challenging section at the end of the day but it is well worth the effort. After a day of cycling, we head back to Hokitika in our shuttle bus for some well earned rest.Accommodation Hokitika
Day 4 - Cowboy Paradise to Kumara - (34km)
This morning we shuttle back to Cowboy Paradise to start our day in the native forest. We will climb through dramatic mountain landscapes. Today we pass through old goldfields and follow historic reservoirs, water races and an old stage coach road. The day's ride ends at historic Kumara and the Theatre Royal Hotel.
Bag transfer. Breakfast provided.
Day 5 - Kumara to Greymouth - (29km + 10km return to Shanty Town)
A later start today and more time to enjoy the scenery. We cycle through timber milling towns and alongside an historic bus tramway heading to Greymouth. Just outside Greymouth is ShantyTown. Step back in time and have some fun with history at ShantyTown Heritage Park. Greymouth is a coastal town so we cycle along the coast for the final part of the trail. Our journey on the trail ends in Greymouth.Accommodation Greymouth
Day 6 - Greymouth to Christchurch by train
You will have the morning to explore the lovely town of Greymouth and visit the train station to absorb the history of the area, before we depart. We will be journeying back to Christchurch on the TranzAlpine train. This is one of New Zealand's great train journeys through some magical scenery.
